A Pair of Pretty Pinots

by Tablewine on November 24, 2009

Have been in a Pinot kind of mood these days, so I decided to do a quick post on two California Pinot Noirs that I recently enjoyed.

Castle Rock Pinot Noir California Cuvee 2008 $12.99

Garnet in color, this affordable Pinot Noir has a woodsy berry nose. Light bodied, it offers both tart and sweet raspberry flavors. It’s delicate on the palate with nice acidity for dining and has a persistent finish with dry berry notes.

Hayman & Hill Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands 2008 $18.99

Garnet red in color, with an attractive burnt-sugar and red-berry nose, this Pinot Noir is light bodied and relatively dry with deep ripe raspberry flavors and a lingering tart-berry finish. It’s nicely structured with balanced fruit and acidity.

I have enjoyed their previous vintage. Either it was a 2006 or 2007. Consistent with your notes Roland.
A little more sweetness(candied, similiar to Firesteed’s Pinot Noir) than other pinots I had.
